Mary Lou Waite, age 78, of Spragueville, Iowa, died on Wednesday morning, March 9, 2011 at Crestridge Nursing Home in Maquoketa, Iowa.
A celebration of her life will be held at 2 P.M., Friday, March 11, 2011, from the Carson & Son Funeral And Cremation Services in Maquoketa, Iowa. Visitation will be held from 12 P.M. until 2 P.M. service time on Friday, March 11, 2011. Burial will be at the East Iron Hill Cemetery, rural Maquoketa, Iowa.
Mary Lou Meyer was born on August 22, 1932 in Iowa City, Iowa, to Henry Frederick and Bertha Louise (Schmidt) Meyer. She was a graduate of Welton High School and had attended nursing school. She married Wayne N. Waite on February 13, 1954 in Maquoketa, Iowa. He preceded her in death on August 6, 1988.
Mary Lou had worked a variety of jobs through the years including working at Clinton Engines, General Thermo and the Jack-N-Jill deli. She had also worked as a cook at the Jackson County Senior Center and at Head Start.
Mary Lou enjoyed crocheting, gardening and her pets. Her family was especially important to her and they were always first.
Mary Lou is survived by her children, Deborah (Kenneth) Drury of Miles, IA, Linda (Douglas) Gonner of Maquoketa, IA, Connie Waite of Anamosa, IA, William "Bill" Waite of Spragueville, IA, and Julia (David) Heinrich of Delmar, IA; 11 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren; and a cousin, Arlene Rossiter of Clinton, IA. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, 2 brothers, a sister, and a grandchild, Angel Anna Lange.
In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, a Mary Lou Waite memorial fund has been established.
