Mary R. Elsbecker
March 6, 1921 - January 14, 2018

Mary Regina (Winkel) Elsbecker, age 96, of Owatonna (formerly of Bancroft), died on January 14, 2018, in her memory care room at Traditions II.

Mary was born on March 6, 1921, in Whittemore, IA to George and Mary Elizabeth (Bessie) Winkel. She was united in marriage to Alphonse "Al" Elsbecker in Whittermore, IA on October 11, 1944. They had four sons -Joseph, James, Kenneth and Paul and lived on a 100 acre farm southeast of Bancroft, IA.

After the death of her husband, Mary and her oldest son, Joe, moved to Fairmont, MN. Mary worked at Jeffery's Bakery and Lakeview Nursing home until she retired. She loved gardening, flowers, caring for the elderly and playing cards with friends (especially 500).

Due to Alzheimer's disease, she moved to Owatonna in 2003 to be closer to her son, Jim. She lived at Traditions II until her passing.

She is survived by her son, Jim of Owatonna, MN; daughter-in-law, Therese of Urbandale, IA; grandchildren, Mindy (Erik) Molin of Roseville, MN, Jana (Jeremy) Mickelson of Owatonna, MN, Katie (Nathan) Bunce of Urbandale, IA, Andy (Sara) Elsbecker of St. Louis Park, MN and Lisa (Joel) Rieken of Zionsville, IL; 12 great grandchildren; sister, Bernice Potratz; sister-in-law, Janette Muller; and various nieces and nephews.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, George and Bessie Winkel; husband, Al; three sons, Joe, Ken and Paul; daughter-in-law, Nan; infant grandson, Robbie; and brother, Harold (Bud) Winkel.

A Funeral Mass will take place at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Bancroft, IA on Monday, January 29th at 10:30am. Burial will be in the Church Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:30 until time of Mass at the church on Monday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family.
