Evans, Colorado - Wilfred W. St. John, 81, of Evans formerly of Algona died Tuesday, March 21, 2000, in Evans, Colorado.

A graveside inurnment will be held Monday, October 2, at 11:00 AM at Eastlawn Cemetery, Algona with Reverend Mike Orthel of First United Methodist Church officiating.

Wilfred was born December 25, 1918 in Algona son of Wilbur and Carrie (Laurtison) St. John. He attended school in Iowa. He grew up during the Depression and his father died at a young age. He helped raise and provide for his siblings and his mother.

On December 8, 1938, he married Ruth Minard in Emmetsburg, Iowa. He lived in Emmetsburg and worked in Harding, on a farm for three years. He also worked for Greensburg Auto Parts for 25 years, beginning during World War II in Algona until moving to Westminster in 1962, when he became a glazier and Glassworkers Union until his retirement in 1982. He was a carpenter and built his family's first home in Algona. He moved back to Missouri, then returned to Colorado in 1991 and had lived in Evans until he was admitted to the Life Care Center in Greeley.

Mr. St. John loved to fish and watch "Grand Ole Opry" and western shows. He loved little babies, He attended the Methodist Church.

Survivors are his wife, Ruth St. John of Evans, CO; three daughters, Marilyn Marie Hoffman of Sterling, CO, Marlene McGuire of Lakewood and Lola Mae St. John of Westminster, CO; four sons, Dennis LeRoy St. John of Harrisburg, MO, Dick Dean St. John of Harrisburg, MO, Larry Eugene St. John of Laporte, IN, and Wilfred St. John Jr. of Carbondale; three sisters, Marlene Kinsey of Columbus, OH, Beverly Schuller of Mora, MN and Marion Sutphin of Newton, IA; a brother Durwood St. John of Algona; 26 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

A son, Roger Lee St. John; a sister and brother are deceased.
