A funeral service for Gordon Giddings, 84, of Ames, formerly of Burt will be held Thursday at 10:30 AM at First Baptist Church, 1923 East McGregor Street, Algona with Pastor Kevin Hollinger officiating. Burial will be in Burt Township Cemetery with military honors conducted by the Algona VFW and American Legion. There will be a memorial service held on Saturday at 1:00 PM at Heartland Baptist Church in Ames.

Visitation will be from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM today (Wednesday) at Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home, Algona and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday.

Gordon Henry Giddings was born October 31, 1921 in Burt, Iowa son of Guy Clifton and Lizzie Ellen (Ward) Giddings. He grew up in Burt graduating from Burt Community High School. Gordon was united in marriage to Nora Louise Grover on March 2, 1941 at Algona, Iowa.

Gordon served in the United States Army during WW II from 1942 to 1944. He then returned to Burt where he worked for Swift Hog Station until 1950 and he and his wife also operated the Burt Café. He then worked at the Hanford Plant in Algona until moving to the state of Washington working for Westinghouse doing research and development on nuclear power retiring in 1983 and returning to Burt.

Gordy loved fishing, visiting with family and friends, and researching family history. He was a lifelong member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and a 50 year member of the AF & AM Prudence Lodge of Algona.

Gordon moved to Ames in 2001 and died Monday, July 17, 2006 at Homeward Hospice at the age of 84.

He is survived by one son, James Giddings; three grandchildren, Jay, Celene, and Deborah; two sisters and a brother, Zita Fosnaugh of Fallon, NV, Rodney "Bob" Giddings of Spirit Lake, Iowa, and Joan Lenertz and her husband John of Emmetsburg; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Nora on December 4, 2000; and seven brothers and sisters, Guy Giddings, Lizzie Pannkuk, Hannabelle Carlson, Aeirial Housour Brashear, Willimina "Nina" VanHove, William "Bill" Giddings, and Zola Grady.
