Richard "Dick" Frideres

Richard D. Frideres was born June 15, 1938, in Algona, Iowa, the son of Victor and Caroline Willger Frideres. He attended St. Cecelia's Academy, where he graduated in 1957. He went on to attend Iowa Lakes Community College where he earned an Associate of Arts Degree. In 1955 he enlisted in the United States Navy.

On February 14, 1958, Dick was united in marriage to Marilyn Jasperson at Long Beach, California. After an honorable discharge from the Navy the couple moved back to Algona. Dick worked for Beecher Lane Electric, Utt Electric and Haas Electric before going to work at Algona Municipal Utilities as a lineman and a staff assistant for 33 years.

Dick cherished the time he was able to spend with his children and grandchildren. He also enjoyed being outdoors, especially fishing, hunting, camping, snowmobiling, boating and spending time at the cabin at Fox Lake in Minnesota. He also enjoyed bowling, playing softball and his fishing trips to Canada. He was a member of the Algona Fire Department for 43 years, Lions Club and St. Cecelia Parish.

Dick died unexpectedly on Sunday, July 16, 2006, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa. He was 68 years old.

He is survived by his wife, Marilyn Frideres of Algona, IA, children, Christine Frideres of Fort Dodge, IA; Denise and Tom Frey of Mason City, IA, and their children Nicholas and Alec, James of Minnetonka, MN, and Lindsay of Rochester, MN; Todd Frideres of Algona, IA, Carilyn and David Bettis of Urbandale, IA, and their children, Maren and Ethan; Troy and Rachel Frideres of Ottumwa, IA, and their son, Caeden. Also surviving is his step-mother, Vienna Frideres of Algona, IA, and brothers and sisters, Donald and Mary Frideres of Algona, IA; Wayne and Nancy Frideres of Guntown, MS; Rose and Dick Reding of Algona, IA; Brenda and Dave Osborne of Chandler, AZ; Margo and Rick Adams of Algona, IA; Paul Frideres of Des Moines, IA; Laura and Tom Hudson of Moline, IL; Alyssa Frideres of Des Moines, IA; Victoria Simonsen of Albert Lea, MN.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
