Mary Catherine (Kathleen) Duffy, 98, died peacefully at the home of her daughter, Martha Brophy, in Loveland, Ohio on Tuesday, June 11, 2006. She was born on March 30, 1908 in Emmetsburg, Iowa to Martin and Catherine Brennan. She attended rural schools in Palo Alto County, was a graduate of Emmetsburg High School and received her teachers certificate in 1927.
She taught in the rural schools four years prior to her marriage to Arthur A. Fandel, April 20, 1932. The majority of their married life was spent in Mason City, Iowa. She was a homemaker until the death of Arthur, April 2, 1951. She was an office employee for Montgomery Ward before joining the orthodontist office of Dr. Oldham. In December of 1958 Kathleen married Hugh Duffy and moved to Whittemore, Iowa. Hugh passed away on April 20, 1959 and she settled in Algona, Iowa, where she worked for Dr. Kevin Nash, DDS until her retirement in 1973.
Kay was a life time member of the Catholic Daughters of America, the Algona Hospital Auxiliary; she delivered Meals on Wheels, and furnished rides for those who could not drive. She loved the times spent with her family and relatives, as well as spectator sports and playing cards. She was a long time member of St. Cecelia's Catholic Church where she was a faithful participant at Perpetual Adoration.
Kathleen is survived by two daughters, Mrs. (Robert) Martha Ann Brophy, Loveland, OH, Mrs. (Kenneth) Mary Joan Reinig, Sun Lakes Arizona, and son Paul Fandel, Cincinnati, Oh; 17 grandchildren and 35 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Arthur Fandel, husband Hugh Duffy, son John Fandel, son-in-law Robert Brophy, parents Martin and Catherine Brennan, four sisters, three brothers and many nieces and nephews.
