Robert J. Binzen

Robert John Binzen was born to Robert and Laura (Long) Binzen on November 10, 1915 in Joliet, Illinois. He attended Sacred Heart Catholic Elementary School and Joliet Township High School. On November 4, 1940 he married Loretta Crowley of Seneca, IA at St. John's Catholic Church in Bancroft.

Bob served in the United States Army being stationed in Hokkaido, Japan for one year. He worked for Bud Lee Construction and Ibberson Elevators for many years. He farmed for 17 years in Seneca Township. Bob and Loretta retired into Bancroft in 1987 and in August 2000, they moved to Van Buren Terrace in Algona.
Bob was a 50 year member of the Knights of Columbus #3994 in Bancroft and a 4th Degree Member of the Monsignor P.P. Gearen Assembly # 2610. He also belonged to the Bancroft American Legion. Bob enjoyed golf, bowling, and fishing in his spare time. He and Loretta spent 18 years wintering in Fort Myers, FL.

Robert J. Binzen died Wednesday, June 21, 2006 at the Kossuth Regional Healthcare Center at the age of 90.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Loretta of Algona; four daughters, Eileen Wessels of Bloomington, MN, Pat Ewing of Des Moines, Kathryn Vaske and her husband Ray of Conroe, TX, and JoAnn Binzen and friend Henry Nathanson of Iowa City; 10 grandchildren; 7 great-grandsons; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son Robert J. Binzen; his parents; three sisters, Kathryn Oldani, Mary Deininger, and Geraldine Sokolowski; and three brothers, Laverne, George, and Dick Binzen all of the Joliet, Illinois area.
