Delbert Herman Geitzenauer was born October 4, 1911, in Hobart, Oklahoma, the son of John and Anna Baas Geitzenauer. At a young age the family moved to Whittemore, Iowa, where Delbert attended St. Paul's Lutheran School. After his schooling he began farming near Lone Rock and later worked for Hantelman Builders of Fenton.
On August 14, 1934, Delbert was united in marriage to Frieda Dreyer in Fairville, Iowa. Delbert later managed the Fenton Elevator for 20 years and also worked at Sentral High School before moving to Forest City where he worked for Winnebago Industries for 12 years. Delbert and Frieda moved to Algona in 1976.
Delbert enjoyed woodworking, fishing, camping, traveling and gardening. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.
Delbert died Monday, May 15, 2006, at the Kossuth Regional Health Center in Algona at the age of 94.
He is survived by his wife, Frieda of Algona, IA; children: Gerald and Marge Geitzenauer of Broomfield, CO; Alice Loss of Algona, IA; Dennis and Janeice Geitzenauer of Dakota City, IA; Bonnie Vogelgesang of Hutchinson, KS; Judy and Roger Baker of Lowell, IN; Doug and Becky Geitzenauer of Hutchinson, KS; Nancy Henderson and Al Jameson of Fenton, IA; 16 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; sister, Marie George of Estherville, IA, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Lorenz, Milton and Art Geitzenauer; sister, Esther Finnestad; half brothers, William, Fritz and Henry Hauschild; grandson, Kelly Baker; sons-in-law, Jon Vogelgesang, Bob Henderson and Dean Loss.
