Helen M. Paetz

Helen Marie Paetz was born September 23, 1916, in Plum Creek Township in rural Algona, the daughter of Carl and Emma DeBower Paetz. She attended country school in Plum Creek Township before going to Algona High School. While attending Algona High she received her normal training and after graduation began to teach. Helen later went on to attend Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls, Iowa, to be certified when the teaching requirements changed. Helen returned to teach in country schools in the Algona area.

In her earlier years Helen was an accomplished pianist and enjoyed teaching Sunday school as well. Helen enjoyed doing handiwork, embroidery and crafts. She was a lifelong member of the Trinity Lutheran Church.

Helen died Sunday, April 30, 2006, at the Good Samaritan Communities in Algona, Iowa, at the age of 89.

Helen is survived by her sisters, Elfrieda Clark of Algona, Iowa; Madelyn and husband Berl Priebe of Algona, Iowa; sister-in-law, Norma Paetz of Algona, Iowa, and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Charles and William Paetz, and a sister, Carolyn Paetz.
