Gary L. Gifford

Gary Lee Gifford was born November 22, 1940 in Burt, the 12th of sixteen children of John and Meta (Tietz) Gifford. He grew up in Burt graduating from Burt High School in 1959. He married Elaine Anderson on October 22, 1961 at Titonka. They made their home in Burt and Gary worked at Welp Hatchery in Bancroft for the past 47 years.

Gary loved his family especially enjoying being around his grandchildren and his pets. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed fishing, bowling, and playing cards and cribbage.

Gary Lee Gifford died with dignity on Saturday, April 22, 2006, at Kossuth Regional Health Center, Algona at the age of 65.

He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Elaine Gifford of Burt; three sons, Kenny Gifford and his wife Pam of Algona, Todd Gifford and his wife Jodi of Algona, and Chad Gifford and his wife Saundra of Burt; six grandchildren, Wendy Jo Ricke and her husband Ryan of Round Rock, TX, Kris Gifford of Rogers, Ark, Marcus Gifford and his wife Jody of Algona, Brandon Gifford of Algona; and Trent and David Gifford both of Burt; and one great-grandchild expected in May. He is also survived by eight brothers and sisters, Rosetta "Rowie" Blumer of LuVerne, Leona Larson and her husband Eugene of Fenton, Deloris "DeDe" Boeckholt and her husband Elvin of Titonka, Richard Gifford and his wife Liz of Slater, Lucille Faber and her husband Melvin of Burt, Karen Wubben and her husband Neil of Osage, Diana Bunkofske and her husband Larry of Burt, and Don Gifford and his wife Bobbie of Garner; two brothers-in-law, Harley Boeckholt of Titonka, and Perry Gross of Leland; four sisters-in-law, Mary Jo Gifford of Ankeny, Arla Gifford of Algona, Mary Gifford of Burt and Diane Hellman and her husband Gene of Bancroft; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his parents-in-law, Clarence and Anna Anderson: four sisters, Elvera Blumer, Gladys Boeckholt, Maxine Gifford, and Darlene Gross; three brothers, Gordon, Jack, and Jerry Gifford; and a brother-in-law, Butch Anderson.
