Marcella M. "Sally" Garman

Marcella Mary "Sally" Garman was born March 13, 1914 at St. Joseph, Iowa, daughter of John Edward and Theresa Ann (Fuhrman) Thill. She grew up in the Whittemore area attending Whittemore Country Schools.

As a young lady, Sally worked at the AAA office, Chrischilles Store and Christianson's Store both of Algona, and then for the Bell Telephone Company for 12 years. Sally married Gerald H. Garman on September 7, 1954 at St. Benedict. They lived and farmed in Plum Creek Township until moving into Algona in 1974.

Sally enjoyed raising flowers, gardening, and doing yard work. She also enjoyed playing cards, painting, drawing, sewing, and doing crafts. She was a member of Catholic Daughters of the Americas, the Legion of Mary, New Dimension, Iowa Right to Life, American Life League, National Right to Life, Pro Life Action League, and St. Cecelia Catholic Church.

Marcella M. Garman died Friday, February 17, 2006 at Kossuth Regional Hospital, Algona at the age of 91.

She is survived by her husband Gerald Garman of Algona; two children, Theresa Ann Crum of Winona, MN and Paul Garman and his wife Debbie of Plattsmouth, NE; five grandchildren, Elizabeth Crum, Kathy Crum, Stephanie Garman, Mike Garman, and Jennifer Pollack and her husband Randy; and eight great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister, Bernice Mayer and her husband Robert of Algona; two brothers, Roman Thill and his wife Marie of Fairmont, MN and Harold Thill of Algona; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son-in-law, Daniel Crum; three sisters, Caroline Eischen, Zita Hoberer, and Elvera Kajewski; and one brother, Orville Thill.
