Felice M. Hilbert

Felice Materna Hilbert was born October 31, 1908 on a farm North of Wesley daughter of Ignatius and Theckla (Simon) Eisenbacher. She attended St. Joseph Catholic School and Wesley High School and then Iowa State Teachers College at Cedar Falls. Felice taught schools in Wesley Township and in Humboldt Township for six years.

On October 3, 1932 she married Norbert Hilbert of Whittemore at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Wesley and they farmed for 15 years in this area. They then moved to Wesley where Norbert was Town Marshall for 20 years. He died November 7, 1989.

Felice was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, the St. Joseph Guild, the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, the Legion of Mary, the Senior Citizens of Wesley, and many card clubs. She loved gardening, reading, playing cards, and visiting with family and friends.

Felice M. Hilbert died Sunday, January 8, 2006, at Westview Care Center, Britt at the age of 97. She had been a resident there since November, 2003.

She is survived by seven children, Audrey Kay Hilbert of Glendale, CA, Dr. David Hilbert and his wife Kathy of Lee's Summit, MO, Mary Robles of Glendale, CA, Becky Kudej and her husband Wayne of Britt, Gary Hilbert and his wife Jane of Britt, Margie McCleish and her husband Tom of Bancroft, and Connie Dittrich and her husband Dan of Algona; a daughter-in-law, Jean Hilbert of Wesley; 27 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; one brother, Vince Eisenbacher of Wesley; four sisters, Thecla Strouth of Minneapolis, MN, Ruth Strouth of Worthington, MN, Lucile Nelson of Wesley, and Jane Faurot of Studio City, CA; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two daughters, Joan Duffy and Judy Hilbert; one son, Larry Hilbert; six brothers, Roman, Father Linus, Sylvester, John, Ed, and Joe Eisenbacher; three sisters, Rosina Hammond, Flavia Studer, and Cecelia Nelson; four grandsons; and one granddaughter.
