Chris E. Schulz

Chris E. Schulz, Jr. was born in Livingston County, Owego Township, Illinois, son of Chris and Lucille (Peterson) Schulz, Sr. on April 5, 1920. He received his education in rural schools in Owego Township. On September 13, 1939, he married Vivian Legner, daughter of Henry and Laura Legner of Pontiac, Illinois. Chris and his family moved to Corwith, Iowa in 1948, where he farmed with his uncle Bill and wife Esta on the land he later purchased and still owns. In 1979, he and Vivian built a home in Corwith and moved. Vivian later became ill and died in 1981.
Chris was married to Carol Fox Nuehring on February 14, 1982 in Klemme, Iowa. They continued living in Corwith.
Chris farmed all of his life and readily contributed to the community. He served as a founding board member of the Corwith Coop, helping form what is now an essential part of the town and community.
He and Vivian were active members of the First Baptist Church in Corwith, where Chris served as a member of the Building Committee, when the new church was constructed in 1953. He participated in many church activities through the years, and later joined the United Methodist Church in Corwith.
Chris partnered with Elmer Marr and traveled throughout the Midwest doing construction work for Farmland Industries. He loved to re-count their adventures to anyone who would listen.
He was an avid hunter, particularly enjoyed the deer and elk trips to Montana and Wyoming. Fishing trips included routine jaunts to Canada and the local lakes with family and friends. As he moved toward retirement, Chris enjoyed golf, especially with Carol, and friends in Florida. Travels included Alaska, California, Texas and many other states, visiting friends and family everywhere he went. Chris became a resident of the Kanawha Community Home in Kanawha, Iowa on December 27, 2004. He died peacefully on Wednesday, January 4, 2006, at the Hancock County Memorial Hospital in Britt, Iowa, with his wife Carol and family by his side. Chris was 85.
Chris is survived by his wife, Carol of Corwith, Iowa and his children, Charles E. Schulz, Kansas City, Missouri, Chris A. Schulz, Corwith, Iowa, Nancy C. Noack and husband, Len, Scottsdale, Arizona, Renelda J. Riffe and husband, Don, Cordova, Tennessee, and Mary C. Swenson and husband, Bruce, Scottsdale, Arizona. Also surviving are 2 step daughters, Pat Anderson and husband, Rick, Lenexa, Kansas, Donna Tiedeman and husband, Doug, Mason City, Iowa, 14 grandchildren, George, Melanie, Wendy, Leonard, Connie, Sheryl, Kelly, Bret, Lindsy, Nicole, Joshua, Chris M., Deanna, Devon, 10 great grandchildren, Dustin, Ben, Brianna, Thomas, Taylor, Connor, Keily, Dylan, Drake, Samantha and 5 step grandchildren, Jason, Sarah, Lindsay, Brian and Richard. Also surviving are 2 brothers, Raleigh Schulz and wife, Delores, Sauneman, Illinois and Leroy Schulz, Wesley, Iowa. Chris was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Vivian, 4 brothers, George, Frank, Robert and Richard, daughter, Ruth Ann, grandson, Larry and step daughter, Peg (Dan) Herring.
