Pat DeVries

Patricia Ann DeVries was born on January 13, 1939 in Algona, Iowa to Harold and Letha (Wallburg) Van Allen. Pat graduated from Algona High School then worked for Van's Café with her parents for several years. She later was manager for 20 years of Maple Park Apartments in Algona. Pat was very involved in helping other people with the foster child program and foreign exchange student program. For many years she also organized the community Thanksgiving Day meal in Algona. Pat had earned her pilot's license and enjoyed collecting antiques.
Pat died at her home early Tuesday morning, January 3, 2006 at the age of 66.
Survivors include her children Darrell Downs and wife Natalie of Winona, Minnesota; Daniel Downs and wife Maria of Des Moines, Iowa; Vance Downs and wife Stephanie of Ames, Iowa; Kelly Thompson and husband Moses of Tucson, Arizona; Shelly Devries of Sioux Falls, South Dakota and Shannon DeVries of Estherville, Iowa, as well as, five grandchildren, Sam, Emma, H, Cooper, and Tate Downs, and one brother Jim Van Allen and wife Marcia of Carefree, Arizona. Pat was preceded in death by her parents. Her husband John DeVries died in July, 2005.
