Ermald Wier

Ermald L. Wier, 91, of Renwick, passed away at 1:30 AM Thursday, December 22, 2005 at Humboldt Care Center South, Humboldt.
A funeral service will be held Tuesday at 10:30 AM at the United Methodist Church, Renwick with Pastor Dale Schoening officiating. Interment will be at Elmwood Cemetery, Renwick.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 PM Monday at Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home, Renwick, with a public Masonic service beginning at 7 PM. Ermald was a 50 year member of the Masonic Lodge.
Ermald was born May 16, 1914 son of James and Ruth Wier in Grandview, Iowa. He graduated from Grandview High School in 1931 and attended Muscatine Iowa Junior College graduating in 1933. Ermald entered the CCC (Civilian Conservation Corps) in Salon, Iowa in 1934 as cook and mess sergeant and graduated from Fort Des Moines Officers School in 1940 and was appointed CCC Junior Officer at Ames, Iowa and Ottawa, Kansas. He was transferred to Sioux Army Depot, Sidney, Nebraska.
Ermald married Lillian Brokl in Ely, Iowa in December 1937. Surviving is one daughter, Mardelle Ledbetter (Jim), Chappell, NE; one step-daughter, Ruth Ann Heinsius, Marion, IA; one granddaughter; two grandsons; and four great-grandchildren. Lillian later passed away in 1978.
Also surviving is his present wife of 27 years, Lolly Palmer Wier of Renwick; three step-sons, Randy (Penny) and Curt (Linda) Palmer of Renwick and Rick (Kris) Palmer of Luck, WI; ten step-grandchildren; and 17 step-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Murray (Marge) Wier of Georgetown, TX; and five nieces and nephews and their children. He was preceded in death his mother and father, his brother Keith and infant sister Arlene.
After being Field Superintendent and Post Contracting Officer at Sioux Army Depot in Sidney, NE, he was transferred to the U.S. Army Tank Automotive Command in Warren, MI in 1965 as Procurement officer buying tanks and trucks for the government. He retired in 1978 from Federal Service. He also spent 16 years while in Civil Service, in the National Guard and nine years as a maintenance officer CW4 (Chief Warrant Officer) in 323rd General Hospital, Inkster, MI. Ermald retired from the Army AUS in May 1974 with a total of 25 years in the National Guard.
Ermald was a member of the Ottawa Lodge #18 A.F. & A.M. Scottish Rite 32nd degree Mason, Moslem Temple Detroit Shrine, and Tehama Temple Shrine of Hastings, NE. He was a member of BPOE Elks Lodge #A984 and the AERIE # 2722 Eagles Lodge of Kearney, NE. He also joined the Masonic lodge in Renwick in 2003.
After retiring in 1978, Ermald and Lolly lived in Kearney, NE until they moved to Renwick in October 2003.
While Ermald was in the Sioux Depot in Sidney, NE he loved to train young men and boys how to box. Some of them trained well and went on to success. Ermald was a happy man. He loved his family and never met a stranger. He made friends easy and had a smile for everyone. He will be sadly and greatly missed.
