Cecil Long

Cecil Raymond Long was born on December 31, 1917 to Ivan and Jessie (Holding) Long. Cecil was schooled at Ledyard and graduated from Burt High School in 1934. On July 19, 1937, Cecil was married to Blanche McFarland at Lake Crystal, Minnesota. Cecil drove the DX tank wagon then the couple farmed near Titonka for four years, near Burt for a year then moved to a farm near Algona where they lived until they moved into Algona in 1983. Following Cecil's retirement, he worked for his son-in-law Harold Bjustrom.
Cecil enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling, golf, and playing cards and enjoyed playing baseball when he was younger. Cecil had been President of the Farm Bureau, was a former member of the Burt United Methodist Church where he was an active member then transferred his membership to the First United Methodist Church in Algona in 1983. He also sold Farm Bureau insurance for many years.
Cecil became a resident of the Algona Manor Care Center, later the Kossuth County Care Facility then Good Samaritan Communities where he died on Sunday evening, August 14, 2005 at the age of 87.
Survivors include his daughter Marlys Bjustrom and husband Harold of Algona and son Steve Long and wife Joy of Algona; six grandchildren Tom and wife Linda Bjustrom, Lisa Sexton and husband Craig, Joel Bjustrom, Mindy and husband Mark Nicholson, Ben Long and Pam Long; nine great grandchildren; brother Ed and wife Betty Long of Algona; sisters Dorothy Sheirbon and husband Frances (Slim) of Burt, Violet Plemel of Ringsted, Harriet Ward and husband Joe of Eureka, California and Marilyn Erting of St. Louis, MO. Cecil was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Blanche in 1987 and two brothers Howard and Harold.
