Waldo Wayne Kruse

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 16, 2005, at Evergreen Lawn Cemetery in George, Iowa.

Waldo Wayne Kruse was born October 15, 1928, in Boyden, Iowa, the son of Richard and Viola Schmidt Kruse. He grew up in Boyden and graduated from Boyden High School. Waldo went on to attend and graduate from Augustana College and later earned a master's degree from Wartburg Seminary.

On June 16, 1949, Waldo was united in marriage to Chrystal Winter at St. John's Lutheran Church in rural Boyden, Iowa. After their marriage the couple lived in South Dakota where they both taught. They lived in various towns in South Dakota, Wisconsin, New York and Iowa before moving to Burt in 1966. Waldo was a teacher and also coached baseball, basketball and track in the Burt School System. In 1976, Waldo joined the New York Life Insurance Company and worked with them until his retirement.

Waldo enjoyed Big Band music, gardening, especially raising his gladiolas and was an avid St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan. He was a member of the St. John Lutheran Church in Burt and a member of Gideons.

Waldo died Friday, July 8, 2005, at the Fairmont Medical Center in Fairmont, Minnesota, at the age of 76.

He is survived by his daughters, Colleen and Mark Mawdsley of Madrid, Iowa; Rebecca and Wayne Lavrenz of Falcon, Colorado; Cheryl and Jerry McFarland of Fairmont, Minnesota; Rachel and Tom Schill of Gowrie, Iowa; Ruth and Doug Nicholson of Webster City, Iowa; Catherine and Mark Evenson of Oakdale, Minnesota; sons, Daniel and Pam Kruse of Sioux Center, Iowa; Jonathan Kruse of Pasadena California; 18 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; two sisters Laura Krueger of Inglewood, California, and Arlyne Thomas of Woodland Park, Colorado, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Chrystal; two brothers, Lloyd and Aaron.
