Norma Walker

Norma Walker was born on September 2, 1915 at Algona, Iowa to High and Lora (Gardner) Raney. Norma attended country school and graduated from Algona High school in 1933. She took Normal School while in High School enabling her to teach country school in Irvington and Hobarton. She taught for five years before her marriage to Russell Walker on June 20, 1938 in Algona. Following her marriage, she was a farm wife until moving into Algona in 1974. She later worked for the Directory Service and Kossuth Mutual Insurance before retiring.
She was an avid reader, and enjoyed camping. She and Russ spent winters in Florida, Texas, and traveled to California and New York to spend time with Murl and Lorna. Norma was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Algona where she was very active as a Sunday school teacher, taught Bible school, worked at the county fair church stand and a member of the United Methodist Women. She was also a long time member of the Order of the Eastern Star where she was secretary for many years.
Survivors include her husband Russ of Algona; sons Alan Walker and wife Joanne of Algona; Murl Walker and wife Linda of Mendocino, California and daughter Lorna Lisa of Commack, New York; nine grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Also surviving is one sister Buena Potter of Emmetsburg, Iowa. Norma was preceded in death by her parents, and two brothers, Lyle and Howard.
