Dorothy Viola Hobbs Krominga was born May 9, 1921 at rural Crystal Lake, Iowa to Earl and Alvina (Hansmeier) Hobbs. She was baptized and confirmed in Crystal Lake. She graduated from Crystal Lake School. Dorothy was united in marriage to Orville Gene Krominga on September 23, 1944 in Mineral Wells, Texas. They raised two sons, Vaughan and Kent. Dorothy spent her time at home caring for her boys when they were growing up. Later she worked at the hardware store they owned and operated, as a school aide, a city hall aide and at the public library. She also sold Avon. She was a member of the United Methodist Church and the V.F.W. Auxiliary. Dorothy loved gardening, cooking, reading and had a great love for her dogs and wildlife. She was always willing to help anyone in need.
Dorothy is survived by one son Kent and his wife, Roxie of Forest City, Iowa; four granddaughters: Deanne Heidt and her husband Steve; Regina Prentice and her husband Tom; Marci Krominga; and Katie Frerichs and her husband Dan, all of Titonka; six great-grandchildren: Jacob Prentice, Maya Prentice, Madison Krominga, Taylor Heidt, Cassidy Heidt and Cedric Frerichs; three brothers, Raymond (Marge) Hobbs of Britt, Iowa; Clyde (Jerry) Hobbs of Crystal Lake, Iowa; James (Lilah) Hobbs of Crystal Lake, Iowa; one sister, Janice (Lyle) Doege of Woden, Iowa; cousin Calvin (Gerry) Hansmeier of Crystal Lake, Iowa; many nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Vaughan; and a niece, Jolene Hobbs.
