WILLIAMSBURG- Anita Sue Von Ahsen was born on January 17, 1951, in Sigourney, the daughter of James and Zelda (Middlekauff) Collins. She was baptized on August 16, 1954 at the United Methodist Church in Keswick. She graduated from Tri-County High School and attended Iowa State University. Following college she was employed by Amana Refrigeration for five years. Anita was united in marriage to Keith R. Von Ahsen on August 28, 1976 at Immanuel Lutheran Church. The couple lived in rural Williamsburg where they raised their family. She was a full time homemaker for 21 years, while she cared for her six children. From 1999-2001 she was employed at Marengo Memorial Hospital and then went on to be a transcriptionist at Mercy Services in Williamsburg until 2008. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church where she has served on the Ladies Aid. Anita found joy in making crafts, quilting, cooking, gardening, canning, playing the organ and singing in the choir at church, attending her children's sporting and musical activities and researching family genealogy. Anita's true passion was watching her children grow in the love of Jesus Christ. Anita died Friday, November 21, 2008 at the English Valley Care Center in North English after a courageous battle with cancer at the age of 57 years. . She is survived by her husband Keith of Williamsburg; 6 children- Tracy (Aaron ) Moffett of Mechanicsville, Shelly (Donnie) Shaffer of Williamsburg, Christina Von Ahsen of North Liberty, Rachel Von Ahsen of Mount Vernon, Holly Von Ahsen and Aaron Von Ahsen both of Cedar Rapids; a grandson: Camden Shaffer; two brothers: Ronald (Janis) Collins of What Cheer and Alan (Deanna) Collins of Ames; two sisters: Barbara (Rick) Schwarting of Atkins and Cheryl (Tom) Smithson of Altoona. Anita was preceded in death by her daughter: Melissa Kay Von Ahsen in 1983, father: James in 1995 and mother: Zelda in 2007. Celebration on Life Service will be 10:30 am Wednesday, November 26, 2008 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church near Williamsburg. Pastor Richard Meyer will officiate. Burial will be in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4:00 to 8:00pm at the Uhlmann-Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Williamsburg.
