Paul W. Septer was born June 19, 1922 in Pilot Township of Iowa County, west of Williamsburg, the son of George Otis and Carry Fern Markwell Septer. He attended Cross Roads country school and graduated from North English High School in 1940. In January 1942 Paul enlisted in the United States Air Force and served as a B17 pilot in the 487th Squadron of the 8th Air Force based in England. Paul was united in marriage to Carma Lee Harris July 31, 1948 at the Pleasant Grove Church near North English. He farmed in the North English area after all of his adult life. After moving to Williamsburg in 1978, Paul continued to be active in farming as well Real Estate sales. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Williamsburg, a past member of the Williamsburg Lions Club and had served as President and Vice President of the former Christian Farmer's Association. Paul died Friday, November 26, 2004 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City, with his family by his side, from complications of a stroke at the age of 82 years. He is survived by his wife Carma; three children and their families: Michael Septer and wife Susan of Victoria, Minnesota and their two children, Katie and Jonathan; Cindy Davisson and husband Dale of Cedar Rapids and their two children, Jennifer Christofferson, husband Andy and great grandson Brantley, and Stacy Davisson; Sandi Zimmerman and husband Don of North English and their four children, Lindsay Tippie and husband Dustin and great grandson Preston, Alex Zillerman, Cortney Zimmerman and Abbie Zimmerman; and a sister Marvel Smothers of North English. Paul; was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Maxine Ballard. Paul was an avid Hawkeye fan, attending football games as long as he could. His pride and joy was his family, his grandchildren and his great grandchildren, all of whom will miss him dearly. Celebration of Life Services are set for 11:00 am Monday, November 29 at the First Presbyterian Church in Williamsburg with Rev. James Stewart and Rev. Don Ridenour officiating. Visitation will be from 3:00 - 7:00 pm on Sunday, November 28, at the Uhlmann-Powell Funeral Home in Williamsburg. Burial will be a private family committal service with Military Honors. A General Memorial Fund has been established.
