Harvey Asmus
April 3, 1928 - June 19, 2006

Harvey Asmus, age 78, of Rake, Iowa, passed away on Monday June 19, 2006 at Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City, Iowa.
The funeral ceremony will be 11:00 AM Friday at Zion Lutheran Church in Rake with Pastor Larry Rehlander officiating.
Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 PM Thursday at Winter Funeral Home & Cremation Service, in Blue Earth, and will continue one hour before the service at the church.
Harvey Burton Asmus was born in rural Frost, MN on April 3, 1928 to Henry and Byrdie (Johnson) Asmus. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. He attended Rake High School, graduating in 1945.
He enlisted in the U.S. Army and served during the Korean War from 1953-1955 when he was honorably discharged. Harvey then attended the University of Minnesota from 1955 to 1959 where he graduated with a Bachelor in Business degree.
While attending the University of Minnesota, he met fellow student and soon to be wife, Carol Grossbach. They were married in Red Wing, MN on June 21, 1958. To this union, three children were born: Janice; Harlan; and Ann Marie.
Harvey was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church serving for many years both on the Church Council and as an usher. Harvey was also a member of the Rake American Legion Post.
Harvey established Asmus Farm Supply in 1960 and was actively involved in its day-to-day operations. Harvey loved farming, being in the office with customers, going on annual big game hunting trips, fishing with friends, and traveling with his wife.
Harvey is survived by his wife, Carol of Rake, his three children: Janice Vowels and her husband Steven of Sussex, WI; Harlan Asmus and his wife Amy of Rake, IA; and Ann Marie Alfonso and her husband Larry of Fort Collins, CO; eight grandchildren: Erik and Sarah Vowels; Erin, Holden, and Garrett Asmus; and Derek, Stephen, and Luke Alfonso; and his mother-in-law Mable Grossbach of Red Wing.
He was preceded in death by his parents and father-in-law Carl Grossbach.
