Robert L. Ellithorpe, 72, of Maquoketa, Iowa, passed away on Monday morning, August 8, 2016, at his home in Maquoketa, Iowa.
A graveside service celebrating Robert's life will be held at 11:30 A.M., Friday, August 12, 2016 from the Union Cemetery, rural Maquoketa. Visitation will be held from 9:30 A.M. to 11 A.M. on Friday, August 12, 2016, at the Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa.
Robert LeRoy Ellithorpe was born on December 9, 1943 in Iowa City, Iowa, to Harold LeRoy and Wilma Mae (Taylor) Ellithorpe. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He married Bonnie Jean Floyd on January 16, 1969 in Mount Carroll, Illinois. She preceded him in death on February 26, 2011.
Robert had first worked construction for Gannon Construction and Campbell Construction. He also worked as a farm hand for Roger Stewart, Charles Schneckloth and Cecil McClimon. He then became a truck driver working over 20 years for various trucking companies in the area.
Robert was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan. He enjoyed playing Euchre at the Jackson County Senior Center and at the Eagles Club. He loved spending time with his family, especially the grandchildren.
Those left to honor Robert's memory include his children, Connie (Steve Johnson) Ellithorpe of Clinton, IA, Karla Ellithorpe of Maquoketa, IA, Todd (Dawn) Ellithorpe of Clinton, IA, Michelle (Art Holloway) Ellithorpe of Atlantic, IA, and Rodney Ellithorpe of Louisville, KY; 7 grandchildren; brothers, Roger (Deb) Taylor of Baldwin, IA, and Eugene (Linda) Taylor of MI; half-sister, Karen Ellithorpe of Council Bluffs, IA; and aunts, Lola (Jim) Marshall of Maquoketa, IA, Carol Taylor of Platteville, WI and Karen Andresen of Lost Nation, IA. He was preceded in death by his mother Wilma, father and step-mother Harold and Dorothy, his wife Bonnie, one aunt, and four uncles including Bill Taylor on July 12, 2016.
In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, a Robert L. Ellithorpe memorial fund has been established.
