Gene Hilton, 71, of Glenwood, IA, passed away on Friday, May 6, 2016 at Bergen Mercy Medical Center in Omaha, NE. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 11, 2016 at Loess Hills Funeral Home in Glenwood. Burial with military rites will be in the Malvern Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 10, 2016 at the Hillsdale U.M.C. in rural Glenwood.

Wayne Eugene Hilton, one of four children of Wayne Eugene and Arlene (Fickel) Hilton, was born on May 1, 1945 near Glenwood, Iowa. Gene graduated from the Fremont-Mills High School in 1963. After high school he attended Universal Technical Institute in Omaha, specializing in diesel mechanics. He served as Fleet Manager for Food Services of America in Omaha. Gene enlisted in the United States Army and was stationed at Fort Belvoir, Virginia. He worked as a diesel mechanic for International Harvester in Omaha, Nebraska. Gene served as pastor for the Hastings United Methodist Church in Hastings, Iowa and later served as pastor for the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Glenwood, Iowa. Many southwest Iowa churches remember Gene as a pulpit supply minister.
Gene and Lynne Svetich were married and blessed with four children, Tracy, Kristina, Clint, and Shane. The couple later divorced.
Gene and Deanna Joy (Hanna) Dannar were united in marriage on June 10, 1989 at the Hillsdale United Methodist Church, rural Glenwood. Gene's family grew to include Deanna's son Jeff and his family.
Gene was a member of the Hillsdale United Methodist Church, the Mills County Farm Bureau, having served as president, and the American Legion. Gene enjoyed fishing and camping in Branson, Missouri. It didn't matter the size of the project he used his imagination and talents to fabricate anything from wood or metal, and enjoyed being active with 4-H. Gene loved life on the farm. As a pastor he brought much comfort, hope and peace through his sermon messages. Gene will be truly missed by all who knew him.
Gene passed away on May 6, 2016 at the CHI Bergen Mercy Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska, at the age of 71 years and 5 days. He was preceded in death by his parents; and son Clint Hilton.
Gene is survived by his wife of 26 years, Deanna Hilton of Glenwood; children, Tracy Vroom of Kiowa, CO, Kristina Hilton of Omaha, Shane (Kelli) Hilton of Stanberry, MO, and Jeff (Donna) Dannar of Malvern; 3 grandchildren, Marli, Max, and Macoy; sisters, Kathleen Hilton of Malvern and Carolyn (Robert) West of Malvern; brother David (Debra) Hilton of Glenwood; nieces and nephews; extended relatives; and a host of friends.
