Richard Theodore Anderson, 79, of Lewiston died Wednesday, July 1, 2015 at Mayo Clinic Hospital - St. Marys Campus.
Richard was born April 20, 1936 to Russell and Thelma (Barnewitz) Anderson in Rushford, MN. He was baptized and confirmed in Peterson, MN and attended school in Rushford. On February 26, 1955 he married Shirley L. Volkman at Rushford Lutheran Church. Together they raised 7 children.
Richard was a farmer all of his life. Over the years, he also worked for Merlin Hungerholt Trucking, Earl's Tree Service, Webster's Lumber Co., and was a logger with his son, Steve for many years. He was known to be a gentle and kind-hearted man who was always willing to help anyone in need. Family was especially important to Richard and he always looked forward to the many family events that took place during the year, particularly, the Anderson Family Campout at the farm along Pine Creek. Richard was a loving man who will be greatly missed but leaves a legacy that will live on.
Richard is survived by his wife Shirley of 60 years; 7 children, Faye (Kerry) Heiden, Kim (Randy) Benson, Steve (Lisa) Anderson, Scott (Laurie) Anderson, Linda (Steven) Lea, Chuck (Wanda) Anderson, and Chad Anderson; 16 grandchildren, Tony (Jess) Heiden, Laura Heiden, Adam (Christina) Benson, Lacey (Chris) Drinkall, Kelsey (Adam) Kopperud, Drew (Ashley) Anderson, Dana Anderson, Clay (Haeli) Anderson, Lukas Anderson, Wade Anderson, Blake Lea, Audra Lea, Royal (Stephanie) Anderson, Riley Anderson, Ross Anderson, and Ethan Anderson; 11great-grandchildren, Emma Heiden, Kail Heiden, Archer Heiden, Jora Heiden, Kaia Drinkall, Kellen Drinkall, Kennedy Drinkall, Maycie Anderson, Callie Anderson, Cayden Lea, and one on the way; and 7 siblings, Doris Lanning, Diane Grover, Luanne Ronnenberg, Lois Rasmussen, Nancy Hoff, Beverly Baker, and Paul Anderson.
He is preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Lyle Anderson.
Services for Richard will be held 11 a.m., Monday, July 6, 2015 at Rushford Lutheran Church with the Reverend Dave Steffenson officiating. Visitation will take place from 4-8 p.m., Sunday, July 5, 2015 at Hoff Funeral Home in Rushford and one hour prior to the service at the church. Richard will be laid to rest at Rushford Lutheran Cemetery.
The family prefers memorials to Rushford Lutheran Church.
