Charles William "Chuck" Schweitzer, 75, of St. Charles died Tuesday March 4, 2008 at Golden Living Center ? Whitewater in St. Charles, following a brief illness.
Chuck was born October 16, 1932 in St. Charles to Jack and Ruth (Schrader) Schweitzer and graduated from St. Charles High School in 1950. On February 16, 1951 Chuck and Patricia Johnson were married in Chatfield. He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War, being stationed in Biloxi, MS. Following the service they returned to the area, eventually settling in St. Charles. Chuck was a hard worker and worked many jobs. He worked for the Railroad, Rochester Bakery, set pins for the bowling alley. He managed the St. Charles Spur Station and later purchased the St. Charles Skelly Station. Chuck also worked for IBM of Rochester from 1957, until his retirement in 1989. Pat died July 21, 2001.
He enjoyed entertaining family on the 4th of July and wintering in Cherokee Village, AR. He loved to go garage saling, fishing camping at Bass Camp and going out for a Friday night fish fry. Chuck loved to cook and care for the neighbors dogs. He was a member of the St. Charles Moose Lodge.
Survivors include six children; Danny (Mary Jo) Schweitzer, Gerald (Jacklyn) Schweitzer, Kathy (Jay) Mollert, Janet (Marlan) Ellsworth, Rick (Vicky) Schweitzer and Kyle Schweitzer all of St. Charles. He is further survived by 23 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, a brother Jack (Lois) Schweitzer of Rochester and Arizona, a sister Maurine (Joe) Bluhm also of Rochester and Arizona and a special friend Joan Hoff of St. Charles. Chuck was preceded in death by his wife Pat and a brother Bud.
Funeral Services will be 11AM Saturday at Hoff Funeral Home in St. Charles with Funeral Celebrant John Wagenaar officiating. Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery, St. Charles. Friends may call from 4-8 PM Friday and one hour before services Saturday at the funeral home. Military graveside honors will be conducted by the St. Charles American Legion and VFW Posts.

"Many years ago when the Spur Station was operating in St.Charles, I would stroll home from school, and Spur station was usually one of my first stops. It was only a candy bar or a soda that I would buy, but what I remember about Chuck was, he always dropped what he was doing and would come out front to wait on me, and always with a friendly smile and a cheerful hello. Chuck was a very pleasant man, and to the family I am very sorry for your loss of your dad. Thoughts and Prayers are with you at this time."
