Paul William Weldon, age 79 of Utica passed away quietly at the Golden Living Center-Whitewater in St. Charles on December 29, 2008.
Paul was born on May 28, 1929 in St. Paul, MN to Lorita R. Farris and Paul Franklin Weldon. He grew up and attended school in Madelia, MN. Paul worked at several area farms before being drafted into the army, where he traveled stateside and in Europe. During the Korean War he was certified in military mountain assault climbing on Pikes Peak and military skiing in Austria. After being honorably discharged, Paul received his refrigeration and boilers license while working in Madelia. He continued in this profession for over 30 years; most spent in St. Charles. After retiring, Paul worked as a maintenance supervisor for several apartment and condo complexes in the Twin Cities, where he earned his swimming pool license.
Paul enjoyed family vacations, weekend drives in the country and fishing outings with the kids. He also enjoyed sports and coached flag football for three seasons. He was a member of the American Legion Post #190 for over 40 years.
Paul married Gloria C. Nundahl on October 9, 1957 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in New Ulm, MN. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary last year at the St. Charles community center.
He is survived by wife, Gloria; five children, Kathleen R. Nelson, Savage MN, Susanne G. (Leonard) Clark, Eagan MN, Barbara J. (Thomas) Hoffecker, Manassas VA, Ronald W. Weldon, Middle River MD, and Patricia L. (Scott) Solheim, Minnesota City; five granddaughters, Angela Nelson, Savage MN, Melissa (Dan) Hicks, Savage MN, Dominica Weldon, St. Charles, Sheri Clark, Eagan MN, Morgan Weldon, Minnesota City; seven great grandchildren and five siblings, Bernard (Barb) Kunz, Madelia MN, Dominic (Mary) Kunz, Madelia MN, Gregory Kunz, Madelia MN, Vincent (Allie) Kunz, Lafayette IN, and Ruthann (Allan) Hacker, Morgan MN.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son James Michael; and sister Katherine Kunz.
The Funeral Mass for Paul will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, January 3, 2009, at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church with the Reverend James Callahan officiating. Friends may call from 5-8pm on Friday at Hoff Funeral Home - St. Charles Chapel and also one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. A Rosary will be said at the funeral home at 5:15PM on Friday. The St. Charles American Legion and Veterans of Foreign War Posts will be conducting military honors following services at the church.
