William Anthony Berning
May 11, 1932 - October 14, 2015

William A. Berning, 83, of Fort Dodge, passed away Wednesday, October 14, 2015 at Paula J. Baber Hospice Home.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, October 19, 2015 in the Chapel of Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home and then at 10:30 a.m. a Mass of Christian Burial will be at Sacred Heart Church with Msgr. Kevin McCoy officiating. Burial will be at St. Joseph's Cemetery, Duncombe. A visitation will be 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, with a Rosary at 6:00 p.m.
William is survived by his wife of 55 years, Betty; children, Rhonda (Quintin) Nelson of Fort Dodge; Steve Berning of Thor; Diann Brueschke; Brian Berning (Lisa) both of Fort Dodge; William Berning (Eric Link) of Ankeny; 13 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; sisters, Agnes Tigges of Des Moines; and Mary Ann Janning of Carroll.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Anna (Jasper) Berning; sister, Leota Reiff; brothers, Albert Berning; LaVerne Berning; Lawrence "Larry" Berning; Norbert Berning; Wildred Berning; Francis Berning; daughter-in-law, Christi Berning and son-in-law, Erich Brueschke.
William A. Berning was born May 11, 1932 in Carroll. He was raised and educated in Breda, IA. William was united in marriage to Betty Wood on May 7, 1960 at Holy Rosary Church, Fort Dodge. The couple established their home in Breda where William farmed until 1968. At that time, they moved to Fort Dodge, and he worked for New Idea Manufacturing Company for many years. William was also employed with U.S. Gypsum Company and Bush Hog Manufacturing. In 1983, William began working at Trinity Regional Hospital until he retired in 1994. He was a member of Holy Trinity Church and was a past member of Holy Rosary Men's Club. William enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He also cherished visiting with his friends.
