Paul S. Oldham
November 18, 1942 - December 5, 2013

Paul S. Oldham passed away peacefully at Mercy Hospital on Thursday, December 5, 2013. Paul was born in 1942 to Frank and Edith (Murray) Oldham in Charles City, Iowa. He graduated from Immaculate Conception High School in 1960. He met and married Janet Vaughn on October 14, 1967, at Corpus Christi Church in Fort Dodge, Iowa. Paul started his career at Algona Municipal Utilities in 1968 and worked for the next 36 years until 2004. He served as Secretary to the Board of Trustees, Chief Financial Officer, and in 2001 was promoted to Assistant General Manager. During his career at AMU, he had been directly involved in the monumental decision to participate in the ownership of the Neal 4 Power Plant; construction of two office buildings; development of utility accounting software jointly with three other municipal utilities; the Iowa Distributed Wind Generation Project; and the construction of a new telecommunications utility for Algona. In 2004, Paul was awarded the prestigious Honor Role Award from the Iowa Association of Municipal Utilities for his commitment to Algona Municipal Utilities, and to the member utilities of the Iowa Association of Municipal Utilities. Paul also utilized his skills and knowledge of accounting and finance while serving on the Iowa Public Agency Investment Trust Board of Trustees for over 15 years.

Paul was currently an active member of several community groups including a founding member of the Algona Morwens Kiwanis Club, and an active 3rd and 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus Council #952 of Algona. Paul's faith was very important to him and he was an active member of St. Cecelia Church. He enjoyed playing cards, fishing, and spending time with his children and grandchildren.

Paul is preceded in death by his parents; six brothers: Jim, Joe, Jack, Alan, Mike, and Rick; and two sisters: Sister Mary Ellen RSM and Sister Mary Francesca RSM; and Franklin J. Schultz.

He leaves behind his wife, Janet; four sons: Glen Oldham of Plano, Texas; Leland (Amy) Oldham of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Francis (Sarah) Oldham of Minnesota Lake, Minnesota, Matthew Oldham of Plano, Texas; one daughter, Eileen (Christopher) Hodgson of Urbandale, Iowa; two sisters: Cathy (Larry) Phearman of Mason City, Iowa, and Imelda (Chuck) Housh of Monee, Illinois; eight grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
