Robert D. "Bob" Manning, 88, of Maquoketa, Iowa, died on Saturday, February 23, 2013, at his home in rural Maquoketa, Iowa.
A celebration of Bob's life will be held at 11 A.M., Thursday, February 28, 2013, from the Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa, Iowa. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 10 to 11 A.M. on Thursday, February 28, 2013 from the Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa, Iowa. Cremation will follow the celebration of life service.
Robert Dale Manning was born on March 19, 1924 in Maquoketa, Iowa, to Silas Manning and Stella (Welch) Manning. He attended country schools at the Red School House and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He married Mary M. Baker on April 3, 1974 in Galena, Illinois.
"Bob" had worked as a farmhand for many years, area quarries and gravel pits, and lastly for the Rock Island Arsenal, retiring due to disability.
"Bob" was a cultivator of the land. He enjoyed gardening, raising sweet corn and asparagus, and doing yard work.
Those left to honor Robert's memory include his wife, Mary Manning of Maquoketa, IA; children, Russell (Sharon) Manning of VA, Jerry (Sandra) Manning of VA, and Chelly (Keith) Liles of Charlotte, IA; step-children, William (Elmeda) Arterburn of Beatrice, NE, George, Jr. (Fran) Arterburn of Idaho Falls, ID, and Michael (Lesa) Arterburn of Beatrice, NE; a daughter-in-law, Francis Manning of OK; a sister, Maxine Sherman of DeWitt, IA; 13 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren; 8 step-grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 children, Patty Jo and Robert E., a step-child, Rowena Thomas, a grandson, Jamie Manning, 5 brothers and 3 sisters.
