Leo was born on November 30, 1929 at Fonda, Iowa, the son of Frank and Mary (Janning) Lambertz. At the age of four his family moved to Carroll. He grew up in Carroll, and attended Carroll Community Schools. In 1947 Leo enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, proudly serving until his honorable discharge in 1949.
After his military service he returned to Carroll, and on September 10, 1951 he was united in marriage to Lois Davis at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Carroll. The couple made their home in Carroll where Leo worked for 37 years at the Carroll Creamery, Lang's Dairy, and finally Anderson Erickson Dairy. In addition he was a 33 year member of the Carroll Fire Department retiring as Captain. Leo enjoyed fishing and hunting. He was a member of the Carroll American Legion, Holy Spirit Church in Carroll, and former member of the Carroll Knights of Columbus.
Left to celebrate his life are his children: Tom (Teri) Lambertz of Des Moines, Jean Lambertz of Carroll, Mary Lou (Jack) Rogers of Denver, Barb (Tony) Smith of Des Moines, Jim (Cindy) Lambertz of Carroll, Karen Munoz of Gilbert, AZ, and Bob (Paula) Lambertz of Carroll; 21 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren; his sisters: Mary Lechtenberg of Carroll, Evelyn (Dan) Bowser of Oklahoma, Elva Bernholtz of Carroll, and Catherine Christianson of Carroll; his sisters-in-law: Barb Lambertz of Des Moines, Alice Lambertz of Des Moines, Lila (Merle) Potthoff of Halbur; as well as many nieces, nephews, and other extended relatives.
Leo was preceded in death by his wife Lois in 2006, his parents; brothers: Joe Lambertz, and Art Lambertz; sisters-in-law, and brothers-in-law: Vern Lechtenberg, Lyle Bernholtz, Virgil "Termite" Christianson, Harold (Ethelmae) Davis, and Evelyn (Paul) Wiederin.
