Charles L. Smith (99) died peacefully at home March 20, 2018. He was born Nov. 27, 1918 in Manhattan, NY to Mary and Charles L. Smith.
Charlie was the loving husband of Eleanor R. (Geishecker) Smith (deceased); the loving father to Margaret, JoAnne, Barbara, Marilyn, and Richard and Skip (both deceased); father-in-law to Arelis, Tom, Dick, Steve, and Gary; grandfather to Michael (deceased), Kristin, Joseph, Christine, Rachel, Jake, Darwin, and Yvette and great grandfather to Isabella, Aiden, Tristan, Declan, and expected baby.
Charlie and Eleanor raised their family in Nutley, NJ and Wilbraham, MA. In 1983, they moved to Englewood with the view of Lemon Bay they loved so much, joined St. Raphael Church and Myakka Pines Golf Club.
Graduate of Georgetown University ('42), Charlie later earned his Masters from American International College '78, where he taught Criminal Justice.
Charlie served in the FBI as a Special Agent. He retired as a Field Supervisor with 30 years of service ('39-'69). In a second career, he founded Smith and Wesson Law Enforcement Academy and the International Association of Law Enforcement Firearms Instructors.
