Tom was a devoted member of the Word of Life Family Church of Winterset and was a member of the American Legion Post 15 of West Union. He was also a member of the National Society of Professional Surveyors. Tom enjoyed playing solitaire, reading the newspaper, watching NASCAR and working on cars. All this said, he treasured the time spent with his family. Survivors include his children, Greg (Nancy) Stahl of West Union, Mike (Donna) Vance of Irving, TX, Sydney (Chuck) Feild of Overland Park, KS., Leslie (Steve) Nichols of Adel, Jim Vance of Winterset; 11 grandchildren, Cassie, Erica, Audrey, Emily, Rachel, Ross, Jessica, Andy, Lisa, Zachary and Joshua, 16 great grandchildren; extended family and many friends.He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Charlotte Vance who died July 31, 2000, a sister, Rosalie Miller and a brother, Roger Vance.
