at the Bishop Drumm Retirement Center and as a Catholic Parish nurse until she retired. During retirement, she took great pleasure being a Foster Grandparent in the Des Moines Schools and taught many children how to read and write. She was honored in 2009 by the American Red Cross of Central Iowa, as a "Heroes of the Heartland" award recipient. Pat's family and her faith were dearest to her heart. She enjoyed traveling to see her children and crocheted countless winter hats, scarves, and blankets for the Des Moines area homeless. She was also proud of her Irish Heritage and looked forward to celebrating St. Patrick's Day every year. She was preceded in death by her parents; grandparents; a sister Peggy Nelson; brothers, Leonard and Hugh Ivis; her former husband Don; an infant son, Lawrence. Pat is survived by two daughters, Margie (Al) Neely of Mankato, Minnesota and Denise Headley of West Palm Beach, Florida; her sons, Paul (Julie) Headley of Urbandale, and Michael (Chris) Headley of Springfield, Missouri; seven grandchildren, Ross Neely, Minneapolis, Minnesota, Adrianna (Jon)Turner, Laura Headley, Evan Headley all of Des Moines, Emily Headley, Boone, Chelsea (Jake) Smith Aurora, Illinois, and Chanlea Wilkes and special friend, Jason ,of Cedar Falls; two great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Delores Miller of Boone; and extended nieces and nephews. Friends may call at the funeral chapel on Saturday, February 24, 2018, from 9 a.m. until service time. The family will be present beginning at noon. Following the service, a luncheon will be held in the Sacred Heart Parish Center. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family.
