The Rev. Dr. William "Bill" Hoover Hethcock died January 9, 2018, after a long illness. A native of Thomasville, North Carolina, he received his B.A. at the University of North Carolina, his M.Div. at The General Theological Seminary, and his D.Min. at the School of Theology of the University of the South. After ordination, he was called to various positions in churches and in the Diocese of North Carolina. From there he served as assistant rector of Christ Church Cathedral in Cincinnati, Ohio, before joining the faculty at the University of the South, where he taught homiletics at the School of Theology until his retirement in 1997. Bill's last publication, How to Get Your Sermon Heard: Preaching to Win Minds and Hearts, was published in 2012. Bill served as faculty representative on the Board of Trustees for the University of the South from 1992-1997. He is survived by his wife Phebe, a stepdaughter, and five grandchildren.
His funeral service will take place on Saturday, Jan. 13, at 1:30 p.m. at All Saints' Chapel, University Avenue, Sewanee. A reception will follow at Otey Memorial Parish.
