. Following that, he went to work for Blount Inc. of Raleigh, NC as a hydraulic engineer for four years where he and Betty spent 2 weeks in Raleigh and 2 weeks in Cedar Falls. When Gene and Betty got tired of all the traveling, Gene found an opportunity with the Waterloo Technical Society doing experimental research with Lou Honary developing new biodegradable oil formulations. When the Waterloo Tech Society closed, Gene retired...for about a month. He then began working for UNI with Ag. Based Industrial Lubricants. Among his other work, Gene was an entrepreneur and founded Legacy Development Company, a family business, where he did general contracting and real estate development. Gene was 83 when he finally retired for good. Gene enjoyed bowling, fishing the lakes of Minnesota, pheasant hunting, and woodworking. He played the saxophone in the John Deere Band and in the Cedar Falls Municipal Band. He was able to attend his 60th high school reunion. Gene had also attended Air Force reunions and had the opportunity to take an honor flight. Gene is survived by his wife, Betty Hunck of Cedar Falls; a son, Brian Hunck and his wife, Dawn of Richardson, TX; a daughter, Karen Hunck of Encinitas, CA; and two grandchildren, Anakah Hunck and Garrett Hunck. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, John Hunck; and two sisters, Helenita Wagner and Sarah Marie Favier.
