dedicated son, especially to his mother. He made sure she was well cared for until the time of her passing. He was also a very talented cook, that always enjoyed the great meal and conversation that would follow his meal preparations. He truly enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
His family includes his wife Judy Nikkel of University Park; two step children, Justin (Denise) Stuit of Kansas City, Missouri, and Kari (Josh) Rooda of Prairie City; two step grandchildren, Calvin and Nadia; three brothers and their wives, Larry and Connie Nikkel of Altoona, Ervin and Kim Nikkel of Reasnor, and Verlin (Peggy) Nikkel of Oskaloosa; two sisters and their husbands, Diane and Jay Bruxvoort of Oskaloosa and Pam and Paul Bolles of Altoona; his father in law and mother in law, Jim and Marilyn Brummel of Oskaloosa; sister in law and brother in law, Bev and Dennis DeVries of Pella; and many nieces and nephews.
Brent was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, a brother and his wife, Warren and Donna Nikkel; a sister in law, Debbie Nikkel; and a nephew, Scott Bolles.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 22, 2017, at 10:00 a.m. in the Third Reformed Church in Pella, Iowa, with Reverend Kevin Korver officiating. There will be a family prayer service at 9:45 Wednesday morning in the Chapel at Third Reformed Church. Burial will be in the Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. Visitation will begin Tuesday morning after 11 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel and the family will be at the funeral chapel from 5-7 Tuesday evening to greet friends and relatives. Memorials may be made to the Brent Nikkel Memorial Fund.
