Lillian Canterbury
Lillian Marie (Hansen) Canterbury 94, of Hampton, passed away Sunday, February 15, 2015, at the Franklin Country View Nursing Facility in Hampton. Lillian was born March 18, 1920 the third of three children to Harold P. and Hilda (Laksenen) Hansen in Mott township, Franklin County, Iowa. She was baptized in 1921 at St. John's Lutheran Church of rural Coulter, and was confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church of Hampton in 1935 by Rev. Kock. She lived all of her younger life near Hampton, Iowa. She attended Otter Creek Country School and graduated in 1939 from Hampton High School. She was a 4-H member. She worked as a grocery checker and waitress till she moved to California in 1942. There she worked as a waitress and bartender till she started working at Thompson Manufacturing, Los Angeles California. In 1958 she married Harold E. Canterbury of Anaheim, California. She had two stepdaughters, Beverly (Kirk) Ramsey, Texas, and Darlene (Steve) Struman, Yorba Linda, California. years she also played the accordion. She loved to dance, watch Lawrence Welk, play cards, bingo, and always called friends and relatives to sing them Happy Birthday on the phone. Lillian is survived by two stepdaughters, Beverly (Kirk) Ramsey, Texas and Darlene (Steve) Struman; two stepgrandsons, Rick (Pam) Ramsey, Victorville, California and Kirk (Kathy) Ramsey, Temple, Texas; four nieces and nephews, Judy Huisman, Dougherty, Judi Hansen, Hampton, Harold (Jo) Hansen, Mason City and Jim (Pam) Hansen, Hampton. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her sister, Minnie & Richard Huisman, her brother Eino & Lucille Hansen, four nephews, Harold Huisman, Richard Huisman, Kenneth Huisman, and her caretaker till his death Edward Hansen and one foster niece Jenny (Jensen) Abraham.
